Avowood Estates is a small, family-friendly community minutes from downtown Fallbrook in North County San Diego. Residents here enjoy updated homes on large lots just minutes from Dinwiddie Preserve, schools, restaurants and all that the downtown village of Fallbrook has to offer. This means that Fallbrook’s farmers market, community events, craft fairs, wine tasting rooms and locally owned shops are all within easy reach.

Fallbrook is home to just about anything you will need when it comes to everyday essentials, places to eat and things to do. There are plenty of fast food restaurants when you are in a rush, both Starbucks and the locally owned Fallbrook Coffee Company for your caffeine fix, and lots of local favorites for meeting up with friends, such as Fallbrook Brewing Company, Red Eye Saloon, Harry’s Sports Bar & Grill, and Firehouse Que & Brew.
Speaking of local favorites, if you are new to the area, you are sure to enjoy finding yours as you check out all of the local eateries in Fallbrook, including Café Bloom, Nessy Burgers, Rosa’s, Robertito’s, Dominick’s Sandwiches, Fallbrook Rib Shack, Main Street Café and Trupiano’s Italian Bistro.
There are also plenty of options for shopping and doing your everyday errands right in town, with most of what you will need found in one of three shopping centers along South Mission Road. Mercantile Shopping Center, Fallbrook Towne Centre and Colony Plaza Shopping Center are where you will most likely go when you need to ship holiday gifts, shop for groceries, pick up prescriptions, do your banking or visit your hair stylist. In this area, you will also find gas stations, gift shops, healthcare providers and just about anything else you might need. If there happens to be something on your to-do list that requires stores or services not found in Fallbrook, you can just make the easy drive to Oceanside or Temecula for expanded options.
While the avocado orchards and equestrian centers show just how well Fallbrook lends itself to semi-rural living in a country setting, you might be surprised to find that this small town has a well-known art scene. So well known, in fact, that it was enough to convince John Villani to include Fallbrook on his list of 100 Best Art Towns in America.
This art scene includes the Fallbrook Film Festival hosted by the Fallbrook Film Factory, live performances at Mission Theater, events and exhibits at Fallbrook Art Center, Brandon Gallery, and the Fallbrook School of Arts. There are also public art installations throughout the village and craft fairs held throughout the year where you can find the handiwork of local artisans.
Aside from the craft fairs, farmers markets and thriving art scene, Fallbrook is also home to many community events, such as the Fallbrook Avocado Festival, Fallbrook Scarecrow Days, Holiday in the Village, Wine and a Bite Holiday Art Walk and the Fallbrook Christmas Parade.
Avowood Estates Parks and Recreation
Living this close to downtown Fallbrook gives Avowood Estates residents the opportunity to reach parks, the Fallbrook Airpark (private airport), the Fallbrook Tennis Club and the ample recreational opportunities at the Fallbrook Community Center just as easily as they can reach hiking trails, equestrian centers and bridle paths.
Fallbrook is well known for its equestrian culture, which is evidenced by the many boarding and training stables you can find within minutes of downtown. But even folks who have no desire to spend afternoons in the saddle will find plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation within easy reach from this central location.
The beaches of Oceanside are only about 30 minutes away, there are several community parks in and around Fallbrook, and Avowood Estates residents can step outside and walk to the nearest nature preserve. In fact, there are 11 nature preserves managed by the Fallbrook Land Conservancy that are all within an easy drive from the neighborhood. Some allow you to hike with your dogs, such as Los Jilgueros Preserve, and some are of historic interest, such as Palomares House & Park. Be sure to check out the conservancy’s website to learn more about the nature preserves and which are currently open to the public.
If you are looking for some longer hikes or more varied experiences, there are also the trails in Palomar Mountain State Park, Cleveland National Forest and the Santa Margarita River Trail System all within an easy drive. Plus, will find more than 160 riding, hiking and biking trails and paths throughout North County San Diego.
You will also find some easy hiking trails at Live Oak Park on Reche Road, which is home to an off-leash dog park, playgrounds, picnic areas, an amphitheater, sports courts and sports fields. All of Fallbrook’s parks are worth a visit, but another that is worth calling out separately is the Fallbrook Community Center and Park, which offers tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, a basketball court, a playground, picnic tables, and an auditorium. The community center also offers an array of programs, activities and classes for children, youth, adults and seniors.
Of course, just because Fallbrook is known for its art and equestrian scenes does not mean that golfers are left out of the fun. There are a handful of courses minutes from the neighborhood, and even more options for those willing to drive just a bit farther to other parts of North County or into the Temecula area. The nearest options are Arrowood Golf Club, Golf Club of California, Pala Mesa Resort and Welk Resort.
Avowood Estates Schools
Avowood Estates is served by the Fallbrook Union Elementary School District and the Fallbrook Union High School District. Most students living here and attending public schools will go to Live Oak Elementary School, James E. Potter Junior High School and Fallbrook High School. Other options available through these districts include Fallbrook Homeschool Academy and Ivy Continuation High School.
If you prefer a private school setting for your children, there are many options located throughout North County San Diego. Some of the closest choices for folks living in Fallbrook neighborhoods include Peppertree Montessori, Fallbrook Montessori, Montessori Adolescent Academy, Rock Rose School for Creative Learning, Alpha & Omega Academy, St. Peter the Apostle Catholic School, Fallbrook Methodist School, Spirit Mountain School, St. Stephen Lutheran School and New Covenant Christian Academy.
