Last month, a few drunk adolescents found themselves partying with a guy that looked awfully familiar… Bill Murray jumped out of the bushes and, after hanging out for a few, indulged the small crowd with several selfies.

Here’s just a random sampling of the celebrities living in San Diego, as well as celebrities from San Diego.
Bill Murray, Actor
We’ll kick off our list with the man who inspired this post. Bill Murray first gained fame on Saturday Night Live in which he won an Emmy Award. He would then move on to star in many comedy films. These include Caddyshack, Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day. Murray attracted critical acclaim later in his career as the star of Lost in Translation in 2003. The role earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
Bill Gates, Founder, Microsoft
Bill Gates, you know… the guy from Microsoft… the world’s biggest personal-computer software company… yeah that guy. Mr. Gates, also known for his philanthropy, owns a home in Rancho Santa Fe here in North County. He is constantly ranked in the Forbes list of the world’s richest people and was the wealthiest overall from 1995 to 2009. In 2011 Gates was the wealthiest American and the world’s second wealthiest person.
Phil Mickelson, Professional Golfer
Phil Mickelson, the multi-awarded professional golfer, winner of more than 40 events on the PGA Tour, including four major championships (three Masters titles won in 2004, 2006, 2010 as well as one PGA Championship in 2005) lives in North County. If you hang around Palomar Airport, you might catch him flying out on his Gulfstream. Mickelson is called “Lefty” for his left-handed swing, was inducted in May 2012 into the World Golf Hall of Fame.
Janet Jackson, Singer, and Performer
American recording artist and actress, Janet Jackson, famously known from the much-celebrated family of performers, the Jackson 5, including the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, also owns a residence in Rancho Santa Fe. Janet (Ms. Jackson, if you’re nasty) is known for releasing sonically superior, socially aware and sexually alluring albums, as well as elaborate stage show performance and film roles. Her career began with appearances on the variety television series The Jacksons in 1976. She would go on to guest on other television shows throughout the 80’s.
Tony Hawk, Pro Skateboarder
Our favorite skater, Tony Hawk calls North County home. Also nicknamed and known as “The Birdman” is a former professional skateboarder and actor. Hawk is famous for completing the first documented 900 as well as for his licensed video games. Hawk is generally thought of to be one of the most successful and dominant pioneers of modern vertical skateboarding. In 2002, Hawk came up with the Boom Boom HuckJam, a radical sports exhibition, and tour which kicked off in Las Vegas. During his entire career, Hawk has made several appearances in films, other media platforms, and his own titles of video games. He has also participated in various philanthropic activities. He has his own Tony Hawk Foundation that helps to build skate parks in underprivileged locations. If you hang out at the Starbucks on Coast Hwy and Grand, you just might catch Mr. Hawk coming in for his morning cup of Joe.
Geena Davis, Actress
Geena, even as a child already aspired to be an actress. In high school, she felt insecure and had low esteem because she was 6 feet, making her the tallest girl in school. Geena attended New England College in New Hampshire and moved the next year to Boston University, where she studied drama. When she graduated in 1979 she moved to New York to start her career. She was even once a sales clerk and waitress. Eventually, she ended up as a model in the Victoria Secret’s Catalogue. Director Sydney Pollack spotted Geena and cast her in Tootsie in 1982. Getting good reviews, Geena relocated to Los Angeles where she got the role of Wendy in the short-lived television series “Buffalo Bill” in 1983. Her next appearance on television was in her own series “Sara” in 1985, which was also good, but was soon canceled.
Joe Walsh, Guitarist for The Eagles Band
Joe Walsh is an American musician, songwriter, record producer, and actor, but is most famously known for being part of The Eagles. He has been a member of three commercially successful groups: the James Gang, Barnstorm, and of course the Eagles. Walsh is successful in both his solo career and as a session musician, in which he very much in demand. He is ranked number 54 in Rolling Stone magazine’s 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.
