Clearcrest North County Neighborhood Guide


Clearcrest is a small, cul de sac neighborhood in the town of Fallbrook in North County San Diego. The community is adjacent to the local high school and just minutes from shopping, dining, community parks, hiking trails and the thriving art scene in downtown Fallbrook.

Lot sizes are large here, but prices are moderate, particularly when compared to other North County communities outside of Fallbrook. While some areas of North County are considerably more expensive than Fallbrook neighborhoods like Clearcrest, these more affordable options still offer the coveted North County lifestyle, including semi-rural living close to all of the conveniences and amenities found in cities.

Plus, Fallbrook is well established as an art destination, which sets it apart from some of its costlier neighbors.

Clearcrest consists of about two dozen detached, single-family homes located on a cul de sac next to Fallbrook High School and Ivy Continuation High School. Homes here have four to five bedrooms, two to three bathrooms, views of the surrounding rolling hills and an average of 2,899 square feet of living space ( Lot sizes range from about .5 acre to 1.6 acres, and about half of the homes do not have rear neighbors, since they are adjacent to the high schools.

It appears that there are no homeowners association dues or Mello Roos, but potential buyers should ask their real estate agents to confirm this information before making an offer.

Just two homes sold in Clearcrest in the last year, which shows that this is one of the many family-friendly Fallbrook neighborhoods where folks tend to stay a while. If you are interested in buying a home in this small community near schools, shopping and more, be sure to start working with a local realtor right away so that they can let you know as soon as something comes on the market.

Between the art scene and the community events held throughout the year, there is always something to do in Fallbrook. Art lovers can peruse the latest exhibit at the Fallbrook Art Center, take classes at Fallbrook School of the Arts, tour Brandon Gallery, take in a live performance at Mission Theater or catch the latest short film created by the Fallbrook Film Factory. Or, you can simply check out the public art installations in the village while going about your regular errands.

A great way to get to know your neighbors and enjoy seasonal outings is to attend some of the many community events held in Fallbrook. Just a handful of examples are the well-known Fallbrook Avocado Festival, Fallbrook Film Festival, Holiday in the Village, Fallbrook Scarecrow Days, Fallbrook Christmas Parade, and Wine and a Bite Holiday Art Walk.

Between these events, you can keep busy browsing craft fairs, picking up local produce at the weekly farmers market, visiting wine tasting rooms for local wineries, or even trying out the latest craft brews offered at the Fallbrook Brewing Company tasting room on Main Street.

If you like to start your day with a bit of caffeine, you can choose between the Fallbrook Brewing Company for a local option or Starbucks for a big-name favorite. Either way, you might want to take it to go so that you can hit South Mission Road and the downtown area to get just about all of your everyday essentials without needing to head to the city.

Most of your to-do list can likely be taken care of right on South Mission Road in Colony Plaza Shopping Center, Fallbrook Towne Centre and Mercantile Shopping Center. Between these three plazas, you can stock up on groceries and pet food, pick up prescriptions, get supplies for home improvement projects, drop off your dry cleaning, take care of your banking, ship packages and even get in a workout. You can also find salons, gas stations, healthcare providers and all of your other necessities in this area, which is just minutes from the Clearcrest neighborhood.

For those times when you really need to make a trip to a big box store or seek out options that are not found in Fallbrook, you can easily reach Oceanside and Temecula to take advantage of the expanded shopping and dining options in these larger cities.

Speaking of dining options, Fallbrook has quite a few. Some of your nearby choices include Firehouse Que & Brew, Garden Center Café & Grill, Main Street Café, Trupiano’s Italian Bistro, Dominick’s Sandwiches, Robertito’s Mexican Food, Café Bloom, Rosa’s Mexican Food, and the eclectic Café de Artistes at the Fallbrook Art Center. Of course, there are also plenty of fast and fast casual options, such as Burger King, Taco Bell, Chipotle, Carl’s Jr, KFC, Domino’s Pizza and McDonald’s.

As mentioned above, there is always something to do in Fallbrook, and that includes lots of options for outdoor recreation. Surfers and sunbathers only have about a 30-minute drive to the beaches of Oceanside, equestrians will find boarding and training stables throughout Fallbrook and North County, and the Fallbrook Land Conservancy manages 11 nature preserves that are all within an easy drive from Clearcrest. In fact, Dinwiddie Preserve is just northeast of the neighborhood, and Los Jilgueros Preserve is just a short drive to the west.

These preserves scattered throughout Fallbrook, Bonsall and the surrounding area offer some of the nearest opportunities for getting out on the trails, so be sure to visit the land conservancy’s website to learn more about the preserves, which ones are currently open to the public, and the types of trails offered by each.

Some of the other 160+ hiking, biking and riding trails you will find throughout North County San Diego are located nearby in the Santa Margarita River Trail System, Cleveland National Forest and Palomar Mountain State Park.

For tennis enthusiasts, there is the Fallbrook Tennis Club, pilots with private planes have the nearby Fallbrook Airpark, and the entire family can enjoy the community programming and park amenities at the Fallbrook Community Center and Park on Heald Lane. For golfers, the closest options are Arrowood Golf Club, Golf Club of California, Pala Mesa Resort and Welk Resort. For expanded country club amenities, you might want to check out Vista Valley Country Club or Castle Creek Country Club.

There are also several community parks with playgrounds, sports facilities and picnic areas, including Don Dussault County Park, Clemmens Lane Park, Ball Park, Ingold Sports Park, Alturas Street Park, and Live Oak Park, which also has an off-leash dog park.

Clearcrest public school students generally begin their education at Live Oak Elementary School in the Fallbrook Union Elementary School District, followed by James E. Potter Junior High School and Fallbrook High School in the Fallbrook Union High School District. Other options include Fallbrook Homeschool Academy and Ivy Continuation School.

Clearcrest is adjacent to both of the high schools, so students can walk or bike to school.

There are also lots of private school options located throughout North County San Diego. Some of the closest to Clearcrest include Rock Rose School for Creative Learning, St. Peter the Apostle Catholic School, Alpha & Omega Academy, New Covenant Christian Academy, Fallbrook Methodist School, St. Stephen Lutheran School and Spirit Mountain School, as well as three Montessori schools: Peppertree Montessori, Fallbrook Montessori and Montessori Adolescent Academy.

For adult learners, local options include the Fallbrook campus of Palomar College, MiraCosta College, Miramar College, San Joaquin Valley College, National University, John Paul the Great Catholic University and California State University San Marcos.

The Fallbrook neighborhood of Clearcrest is located off of Winter Haven Road, and homes here are located on Clearcrest Lane. The community is located north of Winter Haven Road, south of South Stage Coach Lane, east of South Mission Road and Fallbrook High School, and west of Brooke Road.
