Green Briar North County Neighborhood Guide

Green Briar is a small community of single-family homes in the town of Fallbrook in North County San Diego. Close to public and private schools, restaurants, shops, and lots of opportunities for outdoor recreation, this family-friendly neighborhood makes a great home base for folks who enjoy an active lifestyle.

From here, you can reach the art galleries and boutiques of downtown Fallbrook in fewer than 10 minutes, take your dog to an off-leash dog park just five minutes away, or drive about 25 minutes to spend the day at the beach in Oceanside.

The Fallbrook community of Green Briar is made up of detached, single-family homes located on lots ranging in size from about one acre to about three acres. Most of the homes here have two to four bedrooms, two bathrooms, between 1,692 and 2,734 square feet of living space, and are on lots that are about 1.25 acres. (

There are mostly older homes here that were built between the late 1950s and late 1980s. While there were no homes for sale in Green Briar at the time of this writing, it looks like homes here have a value of about $550,000 to about $850,000.

It is common to find family orchards, swimming pools and similar amenities at Green Briar homes. Because the community is located among the rolling hills in this area, many homes also have great views.

Green Briar Shopping, Dining & Entertainment

The Fallbrook neighborhood of Green Briar is less than a 10-minute drive from downtown Fallbrook and from South Mission Road. This means that just about anything you might need is within easy reach.

When your list of errands includes tasks like picking up prescriptions, grocery shopping, shipping packages, picking up your dry cleaning, or getting a haircut, you will likely head to one of Fallbrook’s three main shopping centers: Mercantile Shopping Center, Fallbrook Towne Centre, and Colony Plaza Shopping Center. In and around these three plazas is where you will find most of the shopping and dining options in Fallbrook.

You will definitely want to explore beyond these shopping centers to check out some local faves as well, such as the Button and Burlap gift shop on South Mission Road, The Spoiled Avocado on Main Avenue, Fallbrook Vintage Village on South Mission Road, and Bucket of Nails furniture and home décor store on East Mission Road.

About five minutes from home, you will find Hawthorne Country Store on South Mission Road. If you grew up growing your own food, raising livestock, or riding horses in this area, you probably are already familiar with Hawthorne’s and likely find yourself there at least once a month to pick up gardening supplies or chicken feed. If you are new to living in the country, you might find yourself at Hawthorne’s even more often (either in Fallbrook or Escondido) to get supplies and learn essential homesteading skills, such as canning and poultry care. They even host homesteading fairs with vendors and workshops.

Or, you can head five minutes in the other direction and go to Myrtle Creek Botanical Gardens & Nursery to meet friends at Café Bloom, browse the Farmhouse Gift Shop, or pick up some perennials at the nursery. Myrtle Creek is also home to a historic barn, a butterfly garden, and a wild bird sanctuary.

Plus, there is the Valley Fort Village Shops and Farmers Market on South Mission Road where you will find unique shops with antiques, home décor and gifts, as well as a weekly farmers market and open air market on Sundays.

If you need a caffeine fix before you start all of this exploring, Fallbrook is home to Fallbrook Coffee Company, Java Time, Brooktown Kitchen & Coffee, Bean & Bug, and Starbucks.

Dining options near the neighborhood include El Parque and Lane’s Roadhouse, each of which are about five minutes from Green Briar, as well as plenty of other options located throughout Fallbrook. Some of the local spots you will want to check out include Garden Center Café & Grill, Firehouse Que & Brew, Dominick’s Sandwiches, Main Street Café, Trupiano’s Italian Bistro, Fallbrook Rib Shack, and Oink and Moo Burgers and BBQ.

There are also several wine tasting rooms and the Fallbrook Brewing Company’s craft brew tasting room if you happen to have guests in town or just want to try out some local offerings.

Much of the entertainment in Fallbrook revolves around the thriving art scene and the long list of community events held here each year. The Fallbrook Avocado Festival is the best known, but there are dozens of others, including Fallbrook Scarecrow Days, Fallbrook Garden Club Tour, Fallbrook Christmas Parade, Easter Brunch, Summer Carnival, car shows, craft fairs, family wellness fairs, movies in the park, bingo nights at the senior center, and networking groups taking place every month.

If you have even just a fleeting interest in the arts, Fallbrook is sure to have something to pique your curiosity. The Fallbrook Film Factory hosts the Fallbrook Film Festival, Mission Theater holds live stage productions, Brandon Gallery displays art exhibits, and Fallbrook Art in Public Places makes sure you will find plenty of public art installations as you explore downtown. There are also classes at Fallbrook School of the Arts, events and exhibits at Fallbrook Art Center, and a historic soda fountain at Café de Artistes that you will not want to miss. With such a fantastic art scene and something always going on, it will not take long to see why John Villani would include Fallbrook on his list of 100 Best Art Towns in America.

Green Briar Parks & Recreation

For a low-key stroll in a beautiful setting, you can head just five minutes east to Myrtle Creek Botanical Garden & Nursery on Reche Road where you can meander through the butterfly garden or wild bird sanctuary.

Even closer to home, you can have a picnic in the park, enjoy the walking trails, or take your dog to an off-leash dog park at the 27-acre Live Oak Park. This beautiful park set in an oak grove also has softball fields, two playgrounds, soccer fields, a volleyball court, and a basketball court. Other parks in Fallbrook include Don Dussault County Park, Ball Park, Ingold Sports Park, Clemmens Lane Park, and Fallbrook Community Center & Park.

The Fallbrook Community Center & Park is home to a sand volleyball court, tennis courts, picnic areas, and a playground, as well as meeting rooms and an auditorium. Residents and visitors of all ages can enjoy a variety of community programs at the center including youth day camps, fitness classes, art classes, activities for seniors, and sports programs.

Other youth camp options with an emphasis on outdoor activities include the summer camps offered at Old Fliegler’s Farm in Fallbrook and Rawhide Ranch in Bonsall.

For folks who enjoy spending their free time on the trails, there are more than 160 hiking, biking, and riding trails and paths throughout North County San Diego. Miles of nearby trails can be found in Cleveland National Park, Palomar Mountain State Park, and the San Luis Rey River Trail System.

Plus, there are 11 nature preserves managed by the Fallbrook Land Conservancy that are even closer to home. Some of the most popular nature preserves within a short drive of Green Briar are Bonsall Preserve, Hellers Bend, Los Jilgueros Preserve, and Dinwiddie Preserve. Before you head to these or other nature preserves, be sure to visit the Fallbrook Land Conservancy website to plan your visit, since some of the preserves occasionally need to close certain trails or areas to protect vulnerable habitats.

There are also boarding and training stables throughout North County, beaches only about 25 minutes away, a private airport right in Fallbrook, the members-only Fallbrook Tennis Club, and plenty of golf courses within an easy drive. Some of the nearest to the neighborhood are Arrowood Golf Course, Golf Club of California, Pala Mesa Resort, Welk Resort, Marine Memorial Golf Course, and Vista Valley Country Club.

Most public school students living in Green Briar attend Live Oak Elementary School in the Fallbrook Union Elementary School District and James E. Potter Junior High School and Fallbrook High School in the Fallbrook Union High School District. The elementary school district also offers the Fallbrook Homeschool Academy, and the high school district also offers Ivy Continuation High School.

Both Live Oak Elementary and James E. Potter Junior High School are just a few minutes from Green Briar on Reche Road.

Families who prefer a private school education for their children will have no problem finding lots of options in North County San Diego. The closest private schools within a short drive from Green Briar are St. Peter the Apostle Catholic School, Zion Lutheran School, Spirit Mountain School, Fallbrook Montessori, The Rock Rose School for Creative Learning, and Alpha & Omega Academy.

Community colleges within driving distance include Palomar College, MiraCosta College, San Joaquin Valley College, Saddleback College, and San Diego Miramar College. Four-year colleges and universities within driving distance include California State University San Marcos, National University, John Paul the Great Catholic University, Soka University of America, University of California San Diego, and University of California Irvine.

The Fallbrook neighborhood of Green Briar is located east of Green Canyon Road, south of Reche Road, west of Reche Road and Gird Road, and north of Camino Verde. Most of the homes here are located on Green Briar Circle, Green Briar Drive, Green Canyon Lane, Green Canyon Road, and Green Briar Lane.
