Chanukah, also known as “the festival of lights” is a religious and cultural holiday amongst Jewish people that celebrates the rededication of the holy temple in Jerusalem back to God and the miraculous provision of enough oil to light the menorah for eight nights. Chanukah, often also spelled Hanukkah, is translated “dedication”. This popular Jewish celebration involves candles being lit every evening on the menorah, prayers, special food, and more. This year Chanukah begins at sundown on December 12th and ends on December 20th.

1. Home Depot Menorah Workshop Event

Come and create your very own menorah at the Home Depot in Encinitas. You will learn how to make your own menorah at this workshop. This is a great event for kids! This event is typically held on the first Sunday in December.

2. Grand Chanukah Party

Come and celebrate Chanukah with a grand party! Led by the Chabad at La Costa and the Chabad of Encinitas, this Hanukkah event is held at the Forum Shops in Carlsbad. The event takes place between the first and second day of Chanukah on December 13th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. There will be latkes, donuts, crafts, face painting, music and more! For more information contact the Chabad of Encinitas or the Chabad of La Costa.

3. Chinese Dinner Community Meal Event

Come, be in community with others of the faith, and enjoy some delicious Chinese Food. This yearly event is held at the Chabad of La Costa, usually after Chanukah. More information to follow.

4. Congregation B’nai Tikvah Chanukah Party

Come, bring the children, and enjoy latkes and dairy desserts, and more. There will be a Latke contest and dairy dessert. The evening’s Chanukah festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. on the Friday inside Chanukah.

5. Chanukah Party at The Jewish Collaborative of San Diego

The Jewish Collaborative of San Diego is hosting its annual Chanukah Party. Bring your menorah with you. Attendees are encouraged to bring Latkes, Donuts or Fruit. There will be Shabbat Services and Discussion. All ages are welcome! This event will take place on December 15th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

6. Menorah Lighting Event

Come and celebrate the first night of Chanukah with members of the Oceanside community and the lighting of the large metal menorah at the Oceanside Civic Center. Sponsored by the Chabad Center of Oceanside, this menorah lighting takes place on the first day of Chanukah Wednesday, December 13th, 2017 at or just after sundown (5:30 to 6:00 p.m).

7. Chabad of Poway Chanukah Party

The Chabad Center of Poway is definitely holding its annual Chanukah Party this year. Details are still being decided, so stay tuned.

8. Movie and Menorah Event

Join the Chabad Center of San Marcos this Chanukah for a Movie and Menorah. This is a fun event for the whole family. Latkes, Donuts & Chocolate Gelt are served and BBQ Dinner available for purchase. There will be a movie for adults and kids. Enjoy Arts and crafts, Menorah Lighting, Dreidel & more!

9. Chanukah Event at Chabad Center of Oceanside/Vista

Join the members of the Chabad Center of Oceanside/Vista for a Chanukah celebration filled all sorts of fun. Details coming soon.
