It’s time to welcome Spring! People all over the world are ready to celebrate Lunar New Year. Communities gather to let go of the previous year and welcome new hope, honor ancestors and give thanks for friends and family. Celebrations include songs, games, food, and dragon and lion dances. Celebrate the Year of the Dog at any of the following North County Celebrations.

Lunar New Year Celebration At San Marcos Branch Library

The San Diego County Library San Marcos Branch celebrates the Year of the Dog with several activities for the whole family. Local author, Dr. Virginia Loh-Hagan, will read her children’s book, PoPo’s Lucky Chinese New Year. Lakeshore Learning will have crafts for children that celebrate the Year of the Dog. There will performances by the Little Panda Club and by music students of Ms. Rachel Jang. The evening will end with a Martial Arts demonstration and Lion Dancers from the Three Treasure Cultural Art Society.

ACCEF Chinese New Year Celebration

The Poway Center for the Performing Arts welcomes the spring with ACCEF Chinese New Year Celebration. The American Chinese Culture and Education Foundation (ACCEF), has been supporting students in rural China since 2004. The charity has built 17 schools and has provided much needed items such as computers and winter clothing. The ACCEF has also organized local fundraisers, including relief for the 2007 wildfires.

This year’s ACCEF Charity Performance will showcase Chinese Culture and Arts. Celebrate the New Year with performances by renowned professionals and art groups. Experience traditional folk music, dances, martial arts demonstrations, acrobatics and more. The Chinese New Year celebration is a great way to gain insight into Chinese culture and come together as a community from all backgrounds.

Lunar New Year Celebration At 4S Ranch Branch Library

Join the San Diego County Library 4S Ranch Branch for their Lunar New Year Celebration. The event will include traditional performances, Lion dancers and crafts (while supplies last).

Lunar New Year Celebration At Carlsbad Premium Outlets

February 9-23, 2018

As part of the Lunar New Year celebration Carlsbad Premium outlets will offer special discounts everyday. Carlsbad Premium Outlets celebrates Lunar New Year with a performance from the Southern Sea Dragon and Lion Dance association. The group will perform traditional dances in the center court at noon.

Celebrate Lunar New Year 2018 with the Escondido Public Library

The Escondido Public Library is celebrating the Lunar New year throughout the month of February with a series of events for the whole family.

Stories to Celebrate the Lunar New Year

Tuesday, February 13, 2018,  3:30pm–4:30pm

Children ages 6-12 will enjoy storytime with Dr. Virginia Loh-Hagan. A local resident, Dr. Loh-Hagan will read from her books: Popo’s Lucky Chinese New Year and Paper Son: Lee’s Journey to America. Afterwards, there will be activities provided that relate to the stories and Asian culture.

Lunar New Year Celebration: Lion Dancers

Thursday, February 15, 2018 – 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Learn about the history and cultural significance of Lion Dancing and enjoy a traditional performance by The Legendary Lion Dance Association of San Diego.

Panda Express:Pawsibilities Reading Program

February 1-28th, 2018

During the month of February, the Escondido Public Library and Panda Express have partnered to bring the community the Pawsibilties Reading Program. Children ages 4-12 are encouraged to participate. After reading 5 books, each child will receive a free meal from Panda Express. Registration materials can be picked up at the Children’s Desk at the library.

Club M Presents: Chinese New Year 2018

The Fairmont Grand Del Mar will celebrate the New Year in style. Club M is celebrating the Year of the Dog with an American Soju bar, special entertainment, live music by Liquid Blue, and Dj Showtime. Wear Red Cocktail attire and dance the night away!
