Halcyon Carmel Valley North County Neighborhood Guide
The Halcyon condominium community is a family-friendly complex in a walkable Carmel Valley neighborhood. There is an elementary school and park just across the street, and there is a library, community recreation center, middle school and high school within walking distance. Within a short drive, there are several parks, beaches, hiking trails, equestrian facilities and more offerings that make this neighborhood so appealing to families and folks who enjoy an active lifestyle.
Shopping, dining and a luxury movie theater are just across the street and commuters are sure to appreciate the easy access to Interstate 5 and Highway 56.
The Halcyon condominium complex was built in the late-1980s.
There are 184 two- and three-bedroom condominiums in Halcyon. Floor plans range in size from approximately 1,180 square feet to just over 1,600 square feet. Each has an attached, two-car garage and residents enjoy access to a community swimming pool and spa. Monthly homeowners’ association dues ($368 at the time of this writing) cover common area maintenance, exterior landscaping, exterior building maintenance, roof maintenance, garbage collection, water and limited insurance. It appears that homeowners in this community do not pay Mello-Roos, but that should be independently verified by potential buyers.
I found two Halcyon condos for sale that are in escrow at the time of this writing. One is a three-bedroom, three-bathroom, 1,604-square-foot condo with a listing price of $689,000. The other is a two-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom, 1,180-square-foot home listed at $529,900.

Halcyon Shopping & Dining
Halcyon residents are just a short walk away from restaurants, shops, medical services and more just across Townsgate Drive. In the Del Mar Highlands Town Center, there is Ralphs, Jimbo’s…Naturally!, Petco, Starbucks, FedEx Office, The UPS Store, Rite Aid, Bath & Body Works, Supercuts, Tilly’s, Let’s Go Home Décor & Gifts and more. This is also where you will find the Cinepolis luxury theater and lots of dining options, including Taverna Blu, Casa Sol y Mar, Urban Plates, Champagne French Bakery Café, Mia Francesca, Carmel Valley Swirls, Village Mill Bread, Jamba Juice and more.
In the adjacent plaza, there is Sharp Rees-Stealy Carmel Valley, VCA Pacific Petcare Animal Hospital, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Katana Sushi, Sherwin-Williams and Oggi’s.
The next closest shopping center, Piazza Carmel, is home to Vons, PostalAnnex+, Souplantation, Gami Sushi, Royal India, Ace Hardware, Spices Thai Café and Nico’s Taco Shop. On the other side of Valley Centre Drive, there is also Chipotle and Starbucks.
Halcyon Parks & Recreation
Within the Halcyon community, there is a common swimming pool and spa. Carmel Creek Neighborhood Park is just across Carmel Creek Road behind Carmel Creek Elementary School. Just to the west of the community, the Carmel Valley Library, Youth Arts Academy, Carmel Valley Community Park & Recreation Center and the local branch of the Boys & Girls Club are all just a short walk away.
Programming at the Boys & Girls Club includes tutoring, fitness classes, martial arts and gymnastics. Youth Arts Academy offers programs for youth interested in photography, acting, dance and music. At the Carmel Valley Community Park & Recreation Center, you will find tennis courts, an indoor multipurpose court, basketball courts, horseshoe pits, a game room, playgrounds, an amphitheater and picnic areas. Offerings here include adult sports leagues and fitness classes, as well as youth sports, gymnastics, martial arts and dance programs.
Additional parks within a short drive include Del Mar Trails Park, Carmel Grove Park, Carmel Mission Park, Carmel Del Mar Park, Solana Highlands Park and more. For beaches and hiking trails, you need only go as far as Torrey Pines, La Jolla or Del Mar and to the nearby Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve, Torrey Pines State Reserve, Del Mar Mesa Preserve and Black Mountain Open Space Park.
Equestrians are sure to appreciate that the Del Mar Racetrack, Del Mar Horsepark, San Diego Polo Club, and several training and boarding stables are all nearby.

Public school students living in Halcyon are in the fortunate position to be within walking distance to Carmel Creek Elementary School (just across the street), Carmel Valley Middle School and Torrey Pines High School.
Families who prefer a private school education for their children have lots of options in North County San Diego. Some of the options closest to Halcyon include San Diego Jewish Academy, Winston School of San Diego, Del Mar Montessori Elementary and Junior High School, Del Mar Pines School, Cathedral Catholic High School and Notre Dame Academy.
Halcyon is located adjacent to and north of the Palermo neighborhood. Carmel Country Road runs along the western border, Carmel Creek Road is on the eastern border and McGuire Drive is at the northern border.
The community can be reached by entrances on McGuire Drive and Carmel Creek Road, and homes here have Carmel Creek Road addresses.
