Rancho Santa Fe Neighborhood Guide: Del Mar Country Club Estates
Del Mar Country Club Estates, most often referred to simply as Del Mar Country Club, is one of the most exclusive communities in the Rancho Santa Fe area. This affluent neighborhood is just four miles from the beaches of Del Mar and just three miles from Interstate 5. This makes it ideal for full-time residents who need an easy commute to downtown San Diego, Orange County or Los Angeles, as well as those looking for centrally located vacation homes in close proximity to all that San Diego and North County have to offer.
This prestigious neighborhood is located within the 92067 ZIP code, which ranks among the most affluent in the country. Residents here have an average household income of $203,215 and an average household net worth of $1,153,605 (Point2Homes.com).
Living in Del Mar Country Club Estates offers residents the chance to live an upscale, active lifestyle in luxury estates minutes from beaches, farmers markets, casual and fine dining, boutique shopping, hiking and riding trails, equestrian centers and much more.
The Del Mar Country Club was purchased by the current owner, Madeleine Ann Pickens, in 1993 with her late husband, Allen Paulson, who was the founder and owner of Gulfstream Aerospace. Many of the homes in Del Mar Country Club Estates were constructed between the mid-1990s to the early-2000s.
Del Mar Country Club Estates is an upscale, gated community of just over 100 custom homes on lots ranging in size from one to three acres. Residents here live in some of the most coveted homes in Rancho Santa Fe and enjoy the luxury of living in a golf course community with 24-hour gate guards.
Architectural styles include Mediterranean, Traditional and French Provincial, and the primary residences and vacation homes in this neighborhood have views of the golf course, ocean, San Dieguito River Valley and rolling hills. Some homes sit directly on the golf course or overlooking the course.
I found six homes for sale in Del Mar Country Club at the time of this writing. The estate with the highest listing price is a seven bedroom, eight full bath, two half bath, 13,000-square-foot home on 3.09 acres with a guest house, 22-seat home theater, seven-car garage and exceptional outdoor living areas listed at $11,880,000.
The most affordable home on the market in this neighborhood at the time of this writing is a single-level, four bedroom, 4.5 bathroom, 5,150-square-foot home on .79 acre priced at $2,675,000.

Residents here also enjoy being just a five minute drive from two small shopping centers: Fairbanks Ranch Village Plaza and Del Rayo Village Shopping Center. Located just over two miles away, you could walk or ride your bike to the weekly Rancho Santa Fe Farmer’s Market at Del Rayo Village or to meet friends at Fairbanks Ranch Deli at Fairbanks Ranch Village.
Del Rayo Village is also home to a gas station, post office, Leucadia Pizzeria, Dolce Pane E Vino, Ranch Cycles and a handful of other offerings. Fairbanks Village Plaza offers a salon, a tailor, medical offices, professional offices and more.
Living in the Del Mar Country Club neighborhood also means being just five miles from the Village of Rancho Santa Fe where you will find all sorts of appealing offerings, including a village market, upscale boutiques and local eateries. Here you will find a pharmacy, florist, bookstore, jewelry store, antique store, professional offices, boutiques selling homes goods and gifts, banks and more. Restaurants in this small-town shopping hub include Morada and Mille Fleurs at The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe, Thyme in the Ranch, Caffe Positano, Delicias and Rancho Sandwich.
When your shopping needs call for something more along the lines of a Whole Foods Market, Vons or Rite Aid Pharmacy, you will be happy to know that Del Mar Country Club Estates is ideally located with plenty of shopping and dining options within reach. For starters, Trader Joe’s, Panera Bread, Nothing Bundt Cakes and Rite Aid Pharmacy are just minutes away in The Village at Pacific Highlands Ranch. Then there are Del Mar Center and Flower Hill Promenade, which are located along Via De La Valle and home to Whole Foods Market, Petco, Pier 1 Imports, Albertsons, PostalAnnex+, Starbucks, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Three Dog Bakery, Chipotle Mexican Grill and much more.
Also nearby are the Solana Beach Town Center, Cedros Design District, Lomas Santa Fe Plaza, Solana Beach’s Highway 101 shopping corridor, and Del Mar’s farmer’s market and boutiques.
Parks & Recreation
The center of activities and outdoor recreation in this North County neighborhood is the Del Mar Country Club. This private club offers members a 55,000-square-foot clubhouse, fitness center, children’s playground, swimming pool, six tennis courts, a driving range, practice greens, and an 18-hole, 7,226-yard golf course designed by Joseph Lee. Private and group tennis and golf lessons, youth summer camps including golf and tennis, and clinics are available.
There are, of course, several other country clubs, tennis facilities and golf courses in this upscale area, including Fairbanks Ranch Country Club, Morgan Run Club & Resort, Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa, The Farms Golf Club, The Santaluz Club and Lomas Santa Fe Country Club.
The San Diego Polo Club is just down the street, as is the Del Mar Horse Park and Del Mar Racetrack. Other nearby equestrian centers include the Fairbanks Riding Club, Kalimar Farms, Rancho El Camino Equestrian Center, Surfside, Ridgemar, Seabreeze Farms, Bradley’s Stables, South Coast Training Stables and Jasmin Stair Stables.
For equestrians or other animal lovers, the Helen Woodward Animal Center is just a short drive from Del Mar Country Club and offers great opportunities to volunteer your time and skill set to their adoption program, meal program for animals living with homebound people, therapeutic riding program or other offerings.
Of course, North County offers tons of other opportunities for outdoor recreation, particularly if you are looking for the perfect beach, hiking and riding trails with amazing views, or the best place to picnic. There are the beaches of Del Mar, Solana Beach and Encinitas, the 2,352-acre Black Mountain Open Space Park, San Elijo Lagoon and nature center, Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve, Del Dios Highlands Preserve, Torrey Pines State Beach, Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve and Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve.
There are a few parks that are not too far from the neighborhood, but the one that you should definitely visit at least once while introducing yourself to this area is San Dieguito County Park. This 125-acre park is only about 10 minutes from Del Mar Country Club Estates and is home to hiking trails, exercise stations, a playground, picnic areas, a basketball court and Miracle Field, which is an accessible baseball field for players with and without disabilities.
This affluent area is served by many private schools, and several of those are within just a short drive from Del Mar Country Club Estates, including Diegueno Country School, which serves kindergarten through sixth grade students. Also nearby is The Nativity School, offering a Catholicism-based education for students in preschool through eighth grade, and Horizon Prep, which offers a non-denominational Christian education for students in preschool through 12th grade.
Other private schools within driving distance include High Bluff Academy, Cathedral Catholic High School, Cal Coast Academy, Santa Fe Christian, Fusion Academy, Del Mar Pines School, San Diego Jewish Academy and St. James Academy.
Most public school students living in the Del Mar Country Club neighborhood attend Solana Santa Fe Elementary School in the Solana Beach School District followed by Earl Warren Middle School in the San Dieguito Union High School District. They will then attend Torrey Pines High School, Canyon Crest Academy or San Dieguito Academy, all of which are part of the San Dieguito Union High School District.
Del Mar Country Club Estates is south of Del Rayo Estates, east of the Polo Club neighborhood, north of Pacific Highlands Ranch and west of the communities that make up Rancho Diegueno.
