Tucked away, behind the Boys & Girls Club on Lomas Santa Fe Drive, in Solana Beach, is a “sunny yellow cottage” that has been turned into the Center for a Healthy Lifestyle. Serving as the backdrop for The Good Food Factory’s Emmy award-winning cooking show for kids and their families, this place is truly a neighborhood gem.
The Boys & Girls Clubs’ Center for a Healthy Lifestyle is dedicated to inspiring children & adults to live healthier lives through cooking, gardening and fitness. They offer a teaching kitchen, space for classes or entertaining, and is surrounded by an interactive organic garden with beautiful patios and places to ponder.
From learning how to make breakfasts, lunch, dessert or even homemade skincare products using natural and local produce, classes for adults are taught by the talented chefs Phillis Carey, Matthew Purnell, Chef Fuji & Amy Pamensky.
With fun themes surrounding the holidays or pastries which kids tend to love, the cooking classes for kids are just about as fun as you can have in the kitchen.
Watch a few episodes of The Good Food Factory to get an idea of what kids – and their parents – can expect during these fun classes. Family classes are also scheduled through the fall.
How does your garden grow? Come on in for tips on the right soil, the best time of year to plant certain fruits and vegetables and how to start your own organic garden.
Meant for both education and entertainment, the facility is perfect for children’s (or adult’s) birthday parties as well as field trips. Kids enjoy the outdoor garden with chickens and a cute little bunny to chase after.
Host your private event at this sunny yellow cottage with a chef to guide you, or use it on your own for your book club, wine tasting event or girls’ night out.
Rental includes use of beautiful kitchen, bathroom and indoor & outdoor dining areas which seat up to 25 people comfortably.
CHL is an official drop-off location for the J.R. Organics farm CSA program. Pick up your box(es) every Wednesday and register for the Cooking with your CSA class from noon – 1:00 pm.
A portion of all proceeds from the Center for a Healthy Lifestyle go to continued outreach to the kids at the Boys & Girls Club.
